After a long battle with breast cancer, our mother, Michele A. DeRosia Heitz, 51, passed away in our home, surrounded by our love on Thursday, April 14, 2016. Born in New Hartford on November 24, 1964, Michele was a daughter of Durward DeRosia and Janan Hockford Harvey. She was raised and educated in Chadwicks, where she graduated in 1983. Michele continued her education at St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, and earned her R.N. degree. She received her BS in Science from SUNY in 1990, and had continued her studies toward her Master's Degree. Michele lived in Whitesboro for over 20 years. She had worked as a Registered Nurse since 1987 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, where she held many positions, most recently with their OR. Michele's priority was her role as mother to her two children, Brendan and Brienna "Brie Brie". Always present at all her children's life events and sports games including soccer, baseball, and basketball, Michele also attended all their away games. A very fitness minded person, Shelly loved to kayak, camp, and bike, especially with WOPA, her women's group. Michele is survived by her beloved children, Brendan and Brienna Heitz; parents, Durward DeRosia and Janan Harvey; siblings, Derek and Renee DeRosia, Andre and Anita DeRosia, Nicole DeRosia, Danielle and Adie Stephen, and Matthew and Kasha Harvey; she always remained close to the Heitz family; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. We will celebrate Michele's life on Monday at 7 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, Utica. Relatives and friends may call on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica.
