Nilda Maria (Heredia) Gonzalez, 73, passed away peacefully, with loved ones by her side, Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the Oneida Center.
Nilda was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, March 25, 1951, a daughter of the late Francisco Reyes and Julia Heredia. On July 27, 1968, Nilda was joined in marriage to Luis Gonzalez, with whom she shared over 48 loving years, until Luis’ passing on August 19, 2016.
Nilda had an outgoing demeanor and bubbly personality and was always a joy to be around. She was a loving grandmother who enjoyed making her grandchildren laugh. She had a heart of gold and supported her family through everything. She was a good cook and will be missed at family dinners. For 15 years, Nilda was employed with MVHS and St. Elizabeth Medical Center, where she won housekeeper of the year and was known to take care of any mess with a smile on her face. After retiring, taking daily walks were a must, as she would always say she needed the exercise.
She is survived by her beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Awilda and Nils Nilsson, Wanda and Jeffrey Griggs, Carmen Ramos, and Margarita Acevedo; grandchildren, Michael Gonzalez, Alexis Nilsson and her significant other, Lee Curtis Titus, Briana Gonzalez, Janessa Ramos, Jose Ramos Jr., Nils Nilsson Jr., Jeffrey Griggs Jr., and Marie-Elena Griggs; great-grandchildren, Emilio DeJesus, Giselle Titus, Luis Green, A’Shaad Green, Kayden Michael Gonzalez, Elijah Mitchell Jr., Royce Mitchell, Javianna Mitchell, and Nova’Lee Ramos; sisters, Nereida Heredia and Lulu Heredia; brother-in-law, Tony Padilla; in-laws, Felix Gonzalez and Rosa Valentin; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Luis Gonzalez; son-in-law, Sylvester Hawkins; and sister, Wanda Davila.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica. There will be a prayer service at 6 p.m., at the conclusion of calling hours. Nilda will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Luis, in Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff of the Oneida Center for the loving care and compassion shown to their mom during her stay there.
