Peter S. Spatola

Mr. Peter S. Spatola, 44, passed away at his home after a courageous battle with cancer and surrounded by those he loved on Sunday, March 13, 2016. Peter faced his illness as he faced life, with bravery and dignity, always worried more about others rather than himself. Peter was born in New Hartford, April 10, 1971, a son of the late Salvatore and Olivia (Rende) Spatola. He was educated in New Hartford Schools. Peter attended MVCC, where he studied nursing and graduated in 2006 as a Registered Nurse. Nursing the sick was truly Peter's passion in life; he loved to bring compassion and joy into his patient's lives. He was employed for many years as a RN for the Department of Veterans Affairs, and also worked a second job with The Visiting Nurses Association until he could no longer work due to illness. Peter was joined in marriage to Jason R. Paden on Christmas Day, December 25, 2015. The couple shared a union of love and commitment. Peter truly enjoyed his home; and cooking, baking, and decorating were among his passions. He cherished time spent in the garden and just loved to entertain his family and friends. He also had boundless energy, and loved to venture out in the world and traveled whenever he could. He is survived by his loving husband, Jason; his Nonnie, Irene Rende; aunts and uncles, Doreen (who was like a second mother to him) and Fred Folino, John and Victoria Rende, Mark and Jerry Rende, and Michael and Jennifer Rende; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marcia and Richard Paden; in-laws, Jodi and Bruce Liddle, Josh and Emma Paden, and Justin and Shannon Paden; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially nephew, Zachary Holmes and cousins, Joseph and Tony Folino, as well as his little cousin, Rena; also an aunt, Elizabeth Tanski; and special friends, Anita Williams, Anthony Cittadino, and Barb, Jammie and Jared Barnes. He was predeceased by his parents, Salvatore and Olivia; and his sister, Irene Holmes. Peter's Mass of Christian Burial and the celebration of his life will be held on Saturday April 2nd at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Church in Whitesboro. There are no calling hours but the family will greet visitors immediately following mass. The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to special friends who helped care for Peter, Michele, Lynn and Laura and the caregivers of Hospice and Palliative Care, for their loving care and compassion during Peter's illness, especially acknowledging, June, Lisa, Cheryl, Deacon Paul, Stefanie, Irene, and Georgia.
