Mr. Peter J. Tomaino, 95, went home to join his beloved wife, Josephine, on Monday, May 16, 2016. Peter was born in Utica on February 10, 1921, a son of Bernard and Angelina (Arcuri) Tomaino. He was educated in local schools. Mr. Tomaino served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater. On February 14, 1942, Peter was joined in marriage to the former Josephine Antone. They shared seventy-three loving years, faithfully devoted to each other, never leaving each other's side daily, right up until her death on September 3, 2015. He was a security guard for the Morris Detective Agency, predominately stationed at Bendix for many years. Peter enjoyed reading the newspaper daily and watching old movies. In earlier years, he loved to travel around on weekends with the family, playing cards, and just enjoying each other's company. He loved his home with his wife and liked to cook on Sundays, where everyone enjoyed his meatballs. He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Peter Tomaino, and Stephen and Zoie Tomaino; one daughter, Angela Pecheone and Paul Hance; his deceased son Bernard's fiancé, Barbara Smith and her daughter, Cathy Smith; grandchildren, Peter Tomaino, Christina and J.D. Flynn, Michele Tomaino, Christopher Pecheone, Lauren Tomaino and Stephen Tomaino, Jr.; several great and great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Margie DeSantis and Gloria Trietiak, sister-in-law, Theresa Antone; and also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Bernard Tomaino, and three sisters, Marion Montero, Rose Longo, and Evelyn Rhodes. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors on Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours, but the family will greet visitors at the conclusion of mass. Arrangements are with The Matt Funeral Home.
