Ramon Miguel Colon, 87, passed away peacefully, with his loved ones by his side, September 3, 2024, at the Wynn Hospital.
Ramon was born in Coamo, Puerto Rico, July 4th, 1937, a son of the late Emilio Espada and Maria Luisa Colon. Ramon moved to Utica, New York, where he spent most of his life in the city, with the community that he loved, and that loved him back.
If the true measure of a good man is the love of his family, then Ramon Miguel Colon was one of the greats. Ramon was adored by his wife, Sara, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who knew him as Papa Colon. Affectionately known as “Mike” around town, Ramon worked as a butcher for many years at Chicago Markets and Hapanowicz Market.
He absolutely adored and cherished his wife and loved her with all of his heart. His family will remember him as a wonderful father and friend, whose joy of music transcended to the generations that follow him. A talented guitarist, Ramon had a beautiful singing voice and was never happier than when he was playing his Spanish guitar. He loved to sing and play for anyone who listened and especially enjoyed playing around the holidays.
Ramon was loved greatly by his family and is already deeply missed. The bond that he shared with them is unbreakable, like him there is no other. The joy and the laughter they shared are now memories that will last a lifetime and beyond. Always in our thoughts and forever in our hearts.
“Dad, I can’t even put my love for you into words. Our bond was special-I know how much you loved me and I know you knew how much I loved you. More than you could ever know. Your sweetie pie.” -Delilah
Ramon is survived by his beloved wife, Sara Wilmore; children, Jimmy and Maria Colon, Nancy Colon and Elvis Heredia, Lillian and Luis Rodriguez, Iran and Maria Colon, Antonio Scavone, Delilah and Jim Reynolds, David Rodriguez, Sean Scavone, Rachel and Terence Palmer, Lonnie Wilmore, and Michael Wishart; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his children, Mickey Colon, Duamel Scavone, and Debbie Wilmore; and several siblings.
Ramon’s family has honored him privately. There will be no public services.
