Mrs. Rosemary (Long) Latella, passed away peacefully, July 20, 2024, in the comfort of her own home, with her loving family by her side.
Rosemary was born in Utica, November 29, 1936, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Rose (Caliguire) Long. She was raised and educated locally and a member of the graduation class of 1956 of T.R. Proctor High School.
In 1958, Rosemary graduated from the Faxton School of Nursing and later earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing (Cum Laude) from Upper Division. She worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital, retiring in 2002, as Nursing Manager of the Renal Dialysis Unit. Rosemary received several awards throughout her career. Some worth noting, in 1990 she received Outstanding Employee of the Year and later was selected to receive St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital Center 1991 Nurse of Distinction award.
On May 21, 1960, Rosemary married the love of her life, Joseph Latella, with whom she created a lasting bond and commitment of over 60 years until Joe’s passing in 2021. She was a proud member of the Mt. Carmel/ Blessed Sacrament Parish, the St. Anne’s Society and DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). She also taught religious instruction at St. Peter’s Church. Most of all, Rosemary loved family and especially enjoyed hosting holidays, for both sides of her family, at their home on Oakdale Ave.
She enjoyed playing the piano, card games, and was an avid reader. She especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events and other activities. Her favorite pastime was her time spent at Vernon Downs, with her beloved husband, where she and Joe owned and raced horses for over 35 years.
Rosemary leaves behind her children and their spouses, Lori and Mark Kellogg, Joseph and Lynn Latella, Joanne and Joe Kelly, Sandra and Patrick Malloy, and Paolo and Donna Latella; grandchildren, Alaina Latella, Cameron Kellogg, Caprice Kellogg, Joseph Latella, Zachary Latella and his fiancée, Christie Kerr, Clarisa Kelly, Monica Kelly and her fiancé, Duke Schneider, Joseph Kelly, and Cole Malloy; brother, Richard Long; and also many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joe; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ken (Betty) Long, Robert (Adele) Long, and Donald (Roseanne) Long; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gloria Long, Antonina Latella, Rose Latella, Lucy (Tom) Radominski, John (Ivonne) Latella, Philip (Alice) Latella, and Paul Latella.
Rosemary’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 12 noon, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/ Blessed Sacrament Parish on Jay St in Utica, NY. Her family will receive visitors following mass. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum with her beloved husband, Joe, at the convenience of the family.
