Salvatore Raspante Obituary

With profound heartache, we announce the loss of our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend, Salvatore A. “Sal” Raspante, who passed away unexpectedly on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2023.

Born in Utica, April 19, 1968, Sal was the son of Caroline O. Barringer and the late Salvatore “Sam” Raspante. He was raised and educated in Utica, a graduate of Utica Free Academy, and attended Utica College.

On November 14, 2004, Sal was joined in marriage to Enessa Carbone, who he loved so much throughout their 19 years of marriage. Sal was an entrepreneur, an astute businessman, and the owner and operator of Jimmy Johns in Utica and New Hartford.

Always the life of the party, Sal loved having a good time. The consummate host, and ultimate grillmaster, Sal enjoyed treating family and friends to cookouts on the beach and at his home, where pig roasts were his specialty. An avid golfer, he played and supported every not-for-profit tournament in the area and especially enjoyed playing with friends at the Yahnundasis Country Club. In addition to golf, he loved football, was a huge Alabama fan, never missed a Turkey Bowl, and even played once with a broken leg. Sal also enjoyed running and, without training, ran the Boilermaker every year since 1996. He was a “sneaker aficionado”, and needed so many as he would explain, “I walk alot”.  Everyone will miss him walking into the room and announcing “tonight, we ride!”.

Sal brought people together. He was the light in a room, a vibrant force with the biggest laugh and the quickest smile, but beneath his big personality, he also possessed the biggest heart and the most generous and gentle soul. He loved life, his friends, and most of all, his wife and family. He was a devoted father to his three children, his stepdaughter and stepson, Nikki and Mike, and his beloved daughter, Bella, with whom he would often enjoy late-night ice cream runs. She was truly the light of his life.

Always community minded, he was a much-loved figure throughout Utica.  From the opening of his first Jimmy Johns, to the expansion at his downtown location, he was fully committed to the revitalization of the city. He was considered “the mayor” of his Westwood Lane neighborhood, where he and his wife, Enessa made their home. Together they worked, loved, lived, and played as true partners for 19 years.

Everyone enjoyed listening to Sal’s outrageous stories.  While we may have lost the life of the party, he will live on in the stories that we now will tell about him. He will be deeply missed.

Sal, “tonight, we ride!”
