Santina Murine Obituary

Mrs. Santina (Bretti) Murine, 89, passed away with her loving family by her side, on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the Wynn Hospital.

Santina was born in Utica, March 23, 1935, a daughter of the late Joseph and Laura (Rondinelli) Bretti. She was educated in local schools and a proud graduate of TR Proctor High School where she maintained close and loving lifelong relationships with her many friends.

Following high school, she furthered her education studying to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at Faxton-Children’s Hospital,  particularly in the pediatric department for many years. Santina was at one time married to Joseph Murine, with whom she shared her five beloved children.

Truly a classy lady, Santina lit up any room she entered. Her contagious smile and affable personality always made her pleasure to be with. She loved having a good time and always enjoyed going out with her sister to many local restaurants, where she would belly up to the bar and quickly order a “Margarita”. She never met a party or dinner she didn’t like, and she especially enjoyed Sunday dinners with the family. She was a hard act to follow and she will be sadly missed.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Constance  A.“Connie” Cozza, Kelli J. Inserra, Joseph J. Murine, and Santina A. “Tina”  and Dominic  Pavia; beloved grandchildren, Ronald P. and Anne Colangelo Jr., Angelo J. Colangelo, Joseph J. and Vanessa Colangelo, and D.J. Inserra, and Nina Inserra, and their father, Sal Inserra, Bianca Pavia, and Nolan Gaffney, Joya and Kevin Valenti; great grandchildren, Lincoln, Natalie, and Marlon Colangelo, Stella and Martin Colangelo, Annabelle, Christopher, and Olivia Inserra, and their mom, Alexis Arcuri, and Aurora Santina Valenti; her sister, Marie Giglio and her brother, Thomas Bretti, also many nieces and nephews she loved like her own kids, as well as many special neighbors and friends, especially lifelong friends, Nancy Corelli, Betty DiNardo, and Carol Roefaro. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Gioia Murine, who was always in her heart and brother, Dominic Bretti.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 10 am, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. She will be laid to rest beside her daughter at St. Agnes Cemetery. The family will receive visitors following mass.

The family would like to offer their heartfelt to gratitude to her longtime  friend and doctor, Fred Talarico, as well as the nurses of Wynn Hospital, 8 East, for the loving care shown to Santina and her family during this difficult time.
