Steven M. Bullis

Mr. Steven "Ernie" M. Bullis, 55, passed away with his loving family by his side after a valiant battle against ALS, on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. Steven was born in New Hartford, NY on August 23, 1960, a son of Bernard and Doris (Niebuhr) Bullis. He was raised and educated in New Hartford and a graduate of New Hartford High School. He served in the US Air Force from 1981 to 1985, and received many meritorious awards. In 1986, Steve worked as a heavy equipment operator at GAFB until 1995. He then took a position as a laborer with Rin-Buhr Construction Corp. until 2015. Recently, Steven began to work at Federal Express as a package handler. A very loving son and brother, Steven assisted in the care of his dad, who was also afflicted with ALS for over thirteen years. He was an advocate and volunteer for the ALS of Utica and participated in its annual walk. A sensitive and caring man, Steven's life revolved around family. His siblings and their families were the most important part of his life. Holidays, barbecues, and October Fest, were always a highlight for him and he enjoyed every minute, especially the cooking, where he always had the best recipe. "Uncle Fifi" will never be forgotten. He is survived by his beloved mom, Doris; three brothers and two sisters, Jeff Bullis of CT, Debra Lamoree, and her husband, Ernie of New Hartford, Brenda DeLaCruz and her husband, Bob of Albany, Gary Bullis of Washington Mills, and Daryl Bullis of Boston; adored and cherished nieces, nephews, and their families, Chris, Kourtney, John, Dave, Robert, Alana, and Maia; his longtime companion, Joanie Tasior; aunt and uncles, Fred Niebuhr, Bill and Sharon Niebuhr, and Mo Eghigian; and also many cousins and dear friends too numerous to mention. He was predeceased his father, Bernard Bullis; and many aunts and uncles. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Celebration of his Life with Military Honors, on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Messiah United Church of Christ, 3810 Oneida Street, Washington Mills. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 3 to 4 p.m., as well as, visitors greeted following the service. Private interment services will be in Saratoga National Cemetery. The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the many VA organizations, the St. Peter's ALS Center in Albany, the nurses of the PCU at St. Luke's Hospital for all their efforts in Steve's care; and also to his beloved Joanie, who was always there for him during his illness.
