Steven Russell Marks, of Westmoreland, NY, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2021. He was 69 years old.
Steven was born on July 20, 1951, to Theodore and Florence (Hanna) Marks, in Bellevue Hospital, in New York City. Steven had a twin brother, Theodore "Teddy" Marks, with whom he lived until Teddy's passing in 2009. Steven was admitted to Willowbrook Developmental Center, at the age of 6, on March 13, 1958, and transferred to Brooklyn Center on February 14, 1980, where he resided, until his placement at Upstate Cerebral Palsy’s Niagara ICF, on April 24, 1992. In July of 2018, Steven moved to the new Westmoreland ICF, with 5 of his peers from Niagara. Steven was able to remain with peers that were important to him, and lived with them a long time.
Steven loved going out to parks and walking around, getting something to eat, and having parties for others. More than anything, Steven loved being at home with his peers and staff, who knew him well and who had become family to him. He will be fondly remembered for his sweet, quiet nature and interest in others.
Steven will be greatly missed by his UCP family, CAB advocate, and Care Manager.
Arrangements are being entrusted with Matt Funeral Home, in Utica. Services will be private, and burial will take place at West Schuyler Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his twin brother, Teddy.
