Mrs. Sylvia (Carbone) Carino, 93, passed away peacefully at her home after a long illness on Monday, February 8, 2016. Sylvia was born in Utica on April 3, 1922, a daughter of Salvatore and Josephine (Barella) Carbone. She was educated in local schools. On April 11, 1942, she was joined in marriage to Joseph Carino Sr.. Joe and Sylvia enjoyed a devoted and loving marriage of over fifty-eight years. Her beloved Joe passed away on September 25, 2000. Mrs. Carino was employed as repairer at General Electric on Kent Street for many years. She was a former member of the East Side Senior Center, the Sons of Italy and a longtime member of the Mt. Carmel Society, the St. Anne Society, and a lifelong member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. A loving mother and gammie, she is survived by two daughters and one son, Barbara Jo Carino of Utica, Joseph A. Carino Jr. of Barneveld, and Josephine Carino of GA; grandchildren, Lisa and Dale Pelchat and Alan Hewitt Jr.; great grandchildren, Matthew and Melissa Hicks, Mallory Pelchat and Meridith Hewitt; her in-laws, Grace Parenti and Frank Carino; and also many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by four sisters, Carmella LaBuzzetta, Antoinette Krzemien, Theresa Alberico, and Grace Lewis. Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. from the Matt Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father James Cesta. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum. Relatives and friends may call on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., corner of Mohawk St., Utica.
