Mr. Terrance C. Murphy, 85, passed away peacefully at home, with his loving wife by his side, on Thursday, March 3, 2022.
Terrance was born in Utica, January 21, 1937, a son of the late Carroll and Katherine (Petty) Murphy.
He was raised and educated in local schools and graduated from UCA. After graduation, Terrance attended college at Notre Dame University, where he found one of his greatest passions, school pride. Terrance was a lifelong Notre Dame sports fan. He spent six years in the Army National Guard from 1958-1964.
On July 23rd, 1976, Terrance was joined in marriage to the former Patricia Demme, with whom he shared over 45 loving years. He spent many years working as an inspector, with the New York State Compensation Insurance Rating Board, in New York City, from which he retired in 1998. Terrance was very proud of being a daily communicant of his Roman Catholic faith and member of the eucharistic adoration society for several years, first at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church and later at Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
He is survived by his children, daughter, Mary and Tim Potter, and son, Patrick and Trish Murphy; stepchildren, Anthony and Ann Bestany, and Christie and William Keiser; grandchildren, Brady, Camryn, Rory, Penelope, Piper, Simon, Michael, William III, and Vincent; two sisters, Carol Philo and Katherine Mead; brother-in-law, Joseph Demme; and many nieces. Terrance was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Thomas Demme; and mother-in-law, Carmella Demme.
Terrance's family will honor him with a private mass of Christian burial at St. John the Evangelist Church and he will be laid to rest in St. Agnes Cemetery, in Utica.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. William Ryan, for always going above and beyond; and the Visiting Nurses, for their help and kindness during this difficult time. The family would also like to thank Hospice and Palliative care for their comfort and compassion and for making it possible for Terrance to remain in the comfort of his own home.
