Terrence Lipinski Obituary

Mr. Terrence V. Lipinski, 73, passed away peacefully, May 18, 2026, with his loving family by his side, at the Wynn Hospital in Utica.

Terrence was born in Utica, May 15, 1953, a son of the late Joseph and Marcella (Dutkiewicz) Lipinski. He was raised and educated locally and a 1971 graduate of UFA. As a man who always had a passion for music, he went on to attend Berklee College of Music, in Boston, where he received his bachelor’s degree. On April 22, 1978, Terrence was joined in marriage to the former Sherry Ray with whom he shared over 48 loving years of marriage.

Terry was a lover of all thing’s music; it was truly his lifelong passion. He especially enjoyed playing one of his many guitars, and as a true musician, could never have too many. His family referred to him as an “extreme Beatles fan”, who could tell you anything you needed to know about the band, whether it be anecdotes from their music or their band’s history. His passion of music carried into his career as he led and played in many bands over the years including “Phoenix”, “Aris II”, and “Frist Stage”. He also owned and operated his own music store. He first started out by opening International Music, in 1979, on Columbia Street, in Utica, and later in 1984 moved to Varick Street, in Utica, and opened T-N-T Music and Video Store. He was one the original organizers of the Varick Street block parties in the 1980’s and early 90’s. Terry loved watching movies, was a proud member of the West Utica Democratic Club in Utica, and spent time as part of a computer club through the years as he always had an aptitude for technology.

Terry is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry; son and daughter-in-law, Terrence and Amanda Lipinski; grandchildren, Terrence “TJ” Lipinski, and Hailey Miner; sisters-in-law, Linda Kelly, and Patty Shires; brother-in-law, Joseph Shires; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, William Kelly, Marilyn and Thomas Hemmerick, and Carol and Bruce Alden.
