Mrs. Theresa M. (Paoni) Altieri, 90, passed away with her loving family by her side, after a brief illness, Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at St. Joseph Hospital, in Tampa, FL. She had been visiting her family, where they celebrated her 90th birthday.
Theresa was born in Herkimer, NY, March 6, 1933, a daughter of the late Pietro and Esterina “Stella” (Scalise) Paoni. She was raised and educated in Herkimer and attended local schools.
On November 24, 1955, Theresa was joined in marriage to Raymond A. Altieri. Theresa and Ray shared a very loving marriage for over thirty-five years until her beloved Ray passed away, at a young age, on April 17, 1990.
A truly vivacious woman, Theresa would light up any room she entered; she had an infectious smile, was blessed with a great sense of humor, and a level of kindness for others that saw no boundaries. She was a dedicated wife and mother, who never missed a baseball, basketball, or football game played by her sons. She loved going to Florida to visit her family, which included watching her grandsons play baseball from Little League through college.
She will be sadly missed by her three sons, Raymond A. Altieri Jr. (Doreen), Andrew J. Altieri (Linda), and Stephen J. Altieri (Vita); grandsons, Raymond Altieri, III (Darianne), Francis “Frank” Altieri (Ashley), Nicholas Altieri, Joseph Altieri Sr. (Veronica), and Anthony Altieri; great-grandchildren, Giuliana Marie, Emelina Rae, Briella Capri, Raymond IV, and Joseph Jr.; Vita’s children, Paul and Anthony Del Buono, who called her “Grandma Theresa”; and Vita’s grandson, Grayson. She will also be missed by her two surviving brothers, Peter Paoni (Honey) and Anthony Paoni (Peg), as well as, many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Antoinette (Paoni) and Jack Lowe; brother, Benjamin Paoni; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Angela (Altieri) and Jerry Petronella.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 13, at 10 a.m., at St. Peter’s Church, in Utica. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, April 12, 5 to 7 p.m., at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St., at Mohawk St., in Utica.
