Thomas Carcone Sr.

Utica, NY:  Mr. Thomas J. Carcone Sr., 84, passed away peacefully, May 6, 2025, in the comfort of his own home, with loving family by his side.

Thomas was born in Utica, NY, March 9, 1941, a son of the late Eugene and Angeline (Rizzo) Carcone. He was raised and educated locally. On October 3, 1964, Tom was joined in marriage to the former Carmella Dare, with whom he shared over 50 years of loving marriage until Carmella’s unfortunate passing on September 27, 2015.

Tom was a family man who was devoted to his wife and children. Tom did everything in his power to provide everything his family needed. Tom served in the U.S Army for a period of his life before Carmella and Tom started a family. He later began work for the Utica City School District, doing various maintenance jobs until he retired to run his own businesses. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and especially loved his great granddaughter, Melaina, who he affectionately referred to as his “little lady”. Special mention of his grandpup, Bandit, who he absolutely adored. One of his favorite pastimes was making trips to Atlantic City with his wife. Whether it was playing cards with friends or going to the casino, he always loved to place his bets. He loved to be outdoors, enjoyed sitting by a fire, and in earlier days taking the camper on road trips. Tom was an avid fisher who taught everyone the tricks to fishing. Taking the grandkids to fishing contests were the best memories.

Tom is survived by his children, Katherine Buffa, Camille Carcone-Jeffers, Frank and Donna Carcone, and Theresa Carcone; grandchildren, Richard, Joshua, Tiffany, Nicholas, who will be welcoming Tom’s second great grandchild later this year, and Stephanie; great-granddaughter, Melaina Cambry; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Morse; and a special cousin, Jerry Pardi. He was predeceased by his wife, Carmella; son, Thomas Carcone Jr.; son-in-law, David Buffa; and brother, Eugene Carcone.

The family has great appreciation for Tom’s daughter, Theresa and grandson, Joshua, for the endless amount of love and care given to Tom during these last few months. The family would like to also give a special thank you to the Upstate Urology team, Dr. Hanan Goldberg, and Melissa Schmidt NP, for their care and dedication to Tom in this last year.

Tom’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 12 noon, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. There will be no visitation. Tom will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery with his beloved wife, Carmella.
