Virgil Verdura Obituary

Virgil A. Verdura, 88, passed away at home unexpectedly, with his loving wife by his side, on Saturday, September 12, 2020.

Virgil was born in Frankfort, July 30, 1932, a son of the late Carl and Angela (Marquette) Verdura. He was educated in Frankfort and a graduate of Frankfort-Schuyler High School. During the Korean War, Virgil served our country, in the US Air Force, as a Staff Sergeant and was stationed in Alaska and Korea. A longtime salesman, Virgil worked in various fields and companies throughout the years.

On December 4, 1981, he was joined in marriage to Claire Verdura. The couple has shared over thirty-eight loving years of marriage. Both shared a very strong faith in our Lord and were devoted to the Mohawk Valley Church in Marcy.

Virgil was the Men’s Fellowship President, as well as, involved in Prison Fellowship (bible studies), Home Bible Studies and served as a Sunday School Teacher. He also loved to cook, work his crossword puzzles and enjoyed his sports channel, especially, football, baseball and golf.

A good man, of true faith, Virgil will be very sadly missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Claire; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dr. James K. Rone; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Maureen Verdura; a niece, Brianne and her husband, Lane Simmons and their children, Joel and Noelle; and also additional family members and friends.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Louie Verdura and Carl Verdura Jr.

His Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 18, 2020, at 11 a.m., at Mohawk Valley Church, Maynard Drive, in Marcy, with Rev. Mike Melnick, officiating. Private interment will be in Oak View Cemetery in Frankfort.

Relatives and friends may call prior to the funeral service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. The church will be operating at 50% capacity. All attendees must wear face masks, social distance and sign required attendance sheets.
